Electrical companies throughout the world are faced not only with
increasing cost of new construction, maintenance and the replacement
of standard equipment and material, but also with new concerns like
downsizing of crews and environmental issues such as raptor electrocution
and the hazardous chemicals used for wood treatment. Most utility
companies will welcome new products that will allow them to control
costs and maintain uninterrupted service to their customers.
Amistad Fiberglass Co., Inc. was formed in 1978
by Chris and Nancy King. Chris having been a lineman for Central
Power & Light for 17 years had a feel for the needs of the linemen
in the field. During this time of employment in the utility industry
he saw a number of opportunities where new concepts could improve
the job and make it much easier and safer for the men in the field
along with savings to the company. Amistad began producing and supplying
items to the electrical and telephone industry that were designed
by Chris and made from fiberglass composite. The research that was
done during this period of time led to the creation of the current
Cross Arm Insulator (CAI) Unit.
During the past several years the business has
focused on perfecting the design and capability of the CAI Unit,
the new composite cross arm with insulators integrated into this
system, and bringing it to market.
